The Community Farmers Market is a winter season market open Saturdays /10am-1pm December 4th, 2021 through March 26, 2022 (no market Dec 25th or Jan 1st).
INSIDE University Mall 1237 E. Main Street, Carbondale, IL
Our in-person market is open December and runs through the end of March! The in-person market will be in the concourse area near the VIP movie theater on the east side of the mall. Customers can access the market via an exterior entrance on the east side of the building or through the mall (see pictures below).
In-Person Market Our in-person market will look a little different from the past as we will have fewer vendors to accommodate plenty of spacing between vendors & social distancing of customers. We will require everyone to wear a mask and if you forget yours, don't worry as we will have them available!. We will have hand sanitizer spread throughout the market and we will be monitoring the flow of traffic and crowd control. We ask that households send just one person inside the market and that you do your shopping and then leave the building. We know that the farmers market has always been a social gathering but we need to make it purely a shopping experience this year. We will have safety signage and guidance from the Illinois Farmers Market Association throughout the market. Our market information table will be right inside the door and we will have volunteers and staff throughout so that you can ask questions. The market information table is also where customers can get SNAP tokens & Link Match, as well as credit card tokens.
SNAP eligible foods include: fruits, vegetables, meats, eggs, poultry, dairy products, baked goods for human consumption, as well as plants or seeds used to grow food for human consumption, such as vegetable bedding plants and potted herbs.
SNAP ineligible items: Ornamental plants, cut flowers, vitamins, herbal extracts, pet foods, other non-food items like soaps, household goods and prepared foods (HOT or COLD) for immediate consumption such as coffee, sandwiches, wraps, hot apple cider.
We will again be offering LINK Match this market season! Shoppers can use their LINK cards to receive wooden tokens at the Market Information table. Customers will receive an additional $1 in Link Match coupons for every $1 they take out of their LINK, up to $25 each week to spend on fresh fruits and vegetables at the market.
Please be patient. Safety comes first. We understand this is a lot of information and changes but due to COVID, we have had to adapt our market. We have been working very closely over the last several months with the Illinois Farmers Market Association, the Jackson County Health Department, the City of Carbondale and the University Mall to make this happen. Our main goal is safety for our customers and vendors as well as wanting to continue to provide access to healthy, local foods for the community while also providing an outlet for sales for our vendors. We realize now more than ever, the importance of shopping and supporting local and we hope that you will continue to do the same!
